About West Bank String Shop
Locally owned and operated Westbank String Shop was born out of the dream of Dr. David W. Sloan, retired music educator, and founder/proprietor. Dr. Sloan holds a Bachelor of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin, as well as a Master of Music Education from Midwestern State University.
After retiring in 1997 from a career in music that took him from Texas to Missouri, to Mississippi, and back to Texas, “Doc”, as he is fondly referred to by many, opened the Westbank String Shop. The enterprise began in his garage with just three rentals in 1995.
In 1996, he received additional training at the University of New Hampshire Violin Craftsmanship Institute, under the direction of Horst Kloss, Boston Luthier. Since 1997, the shop has been located on Manchaca Road, Austin, Texas.
